The Old Ways
by Robert Macfarlane
5*
Macfarlane writes poetically about his travels in this eloquent book that journeys through England, Scotland & further flung walks following old pathways ranging from Sussex & Essex to Tibet & Spain. He explores ancient walkways that have been in use for hundreds of years writing reverentially about each experience. He follows in the footsteps of both Edward Thomas & George Borrow & his observations of nature & the process of walking itself are a delight. Each chapter can be dipped in & out of although I found myself enthralled by the desciptions & cross referencing. A lovely read.
